The Scholastic Awards were delighted to welcome hundreds of students, educators, and their families to New York City in June to attend National Events. Every year, we plan activities, exhibitions of student art and writing, a recognition ceremony, and a festive party to celebrate the accomplishments of our nation’s most creative youth.
When we introduced the first-ever “Maker Prom” during our National Events in NYC in 2014, we had no idea just how successful it would be. The 2014 National Events kicked off with the Scholastic Awards and the Hive Learning Network NYC’s Maker Prom, where we saw you dancing, creating and meeting new friends! Friday, June 6 we honored you at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in the electrifying National Ceremony with guests Nick Cannon, David Strathairn, Zac Posen, and 2014 Alumni Achievement Award honoree Kay WalkingStick. We ended the celebration with the Saturday Student Showcase at the Art.Write.Now National Exhibition where you read your work, listened to our Portfolio Medalists talk about their process and inspiration, along with a day full of activities and the Gold Medal art and writing created by our talented 2014 National Medalists.
Of course, we cannot forget about our partnership with Colossal Media, who hand painted a 6 story mural of Steven Paul’s 2014 Gold Medal photograph, Lost Time. You can still see the #AWawards billboard at 111 Broadway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
You can also catch the Art.Write.Now National Exhibition at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons The New School for Design and the Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery through June 14!
