What Remains

What Remains, Editorial Cartoon sponsored by The Herb Block Foundation, by Gillian Maurer, Grade 12, Age 19, Asheville High School, Asheville, NC

Sponsored by The Herb Block Foundation, The Herblock Award for Editorial Cartoon was created two years ago within the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards to celebrate the legacy of four-time Pulitzer Prize–winning political cartoonist Herb Block and his remarkable contribution to American history and free expression.

The works selected for this year’s Herblock Award are thought-provoking editorial cartoons that speak directly to issues concerning today’s teens. From racism to global warming to the refugee crises, these teens are making their voices heard.

Congratulations to the 2017 recipients of The Herblock Award for Editorial Cartoon: Gabriel Chez, Gillian Maurer, and Patricia Patalinjug!
